How to Sync Instagram Photos to Google Drive Automatically
Updated: 2026-10-28 · 7 min read
Photos kept on Meecut's servers have a retention period that depends on your plan. If you want to keep them for good, connect your own Google Drive: new photos are copied into a folder you own, organized for you, and they stay there whatever happens to your plan.
What gets synced
Every new photo or video that Meecut saves for you is copied to a Meecut folder in your Drive, in subfolders by person, account and publish date. File names carry the post date, so everything sorts sensibly. The copy in Drive is yours and is not affected by Meecut's retention period.
How to connect
Step 1: open your account settings
Sign in and open your account panel (the account button at the top right). You will also be offered Drive right after you add your first account.
Step 2: press "Connect Google Drive"
You are taken to Google to approve access, then returned to Meecut.
Step 3: let it sync
New photos are copied automatically from then on. Photos you saved before connecting can be sent with "Sync existing photos".
What Meecut can and cannot see
Meecut asks for Google's narrowest file scope, drive.file. It can only see and change files it created itself; it cannot read anything else in your Drive. You can revoke access at any time from your Google account's security settings, or press "Disconnect" in Meecut.
If something looks wrong
- The Meecut folder was deleted or moved to trash: sync pauses. Use the recreate option in the Drive panel to make a new folder and re-upload.
- Some photos are missing: use "Re-check and re-upload" to compare and fill gaps.
- Sync paused after authorization expired: reconnect Google Drive.
Drive or server copy?
The server copy is kept for 7 days, 90 days or permanently depending on your plan, and is meant for browsing in the gallery. Drive is for keeping. Many people use both: browse in Meecut, archive in Drive.
Frequently asked questions
Do the synced files use my Drive space?
Yes. They live in your own Google Drive and count against your own Google storage.
Can I rename or move the Meecut folder in Drive?
It is better not to. Syncing relies on the folder structure Meecut created, and if the folder is deleted or moved to the trash, syncing pauses until it is recreated.
Can it sync to other cloud storage?
Only Google Drive is supported at the moment.
Are files in Drive deleted when I disconnect?
No. Files already synced to your Drive belong to you; disconnecting only stops further syncing.
Space and organization tips
- Clear out material you no longer need from time to time so Drive does not fill up.
- Content for one person sits under one “person” folder, with date subfolders to find things quickly.
- Keep another copy of anything important on a local drive: at least two copies in different places.
- When you stop using it, revoke Meecut’s access in your Google account’s security settings.
