How to Download Instagram Reels in Full Quality, Step by Step

Updated: 2026-10-28 · 6 min read

Reels are Instagram's short videos, and saving one in full quality is the same simple process as saving a photo: copy its link, paste it, download the file. This guide covers the details that trip people up, such as which link to copy, what you get, and how to get the file onto your phone.

Which link to copy

A Reel link looks like https://www.instagram.com/reel/…/. Copy it from the share (paper plane) menu in the app with "Copy link", or from the address bar on a computer. Extra parameters such as ?igsh=… can stay. If the link is a profile, a Story or an Explore page rather than a single Reel, Meecut will not be able to save it as a single link.

Save a Reel in three steps

Step 1: copy the Reel link

Open the Reel, tap share, and choose "Copy link".

Step 2: paste it into Meecut

Open meecut.app, paste the link into the "Save a post" box and press save. No sign-up and no Instagram password are needed.

Step 3: download

When the capture finishes, the video appears under "Just collected". Download it right away or add it to a person. Anything left unhandled is cleared after 24 hours.

What you get

Saving to your phone

On iPhone, the file opens in Safari first; use the share sheet and choose "Save Video". On Android, Chrome usually sends it straight to Downloads and it shows up in your gallery. To save many Reels at once, use "Download as ZIP" in the gallery and unzip it in your files app.

If it will not save

Check that the Reel is public by opening its link in a browser where you are not logged in to Instagram, and that you copied the Reel link itself. For other causes, see Instagram download failed? Common causes and fixes.

File size and format

A Reel is usually a short 9:16 vertical video, commonly 1080×1920, saved as an MP4 with sound (video often H.264, audio AAC). Lengths range from a few seconds to a few minutes, so file sizes vary a lot, commonly from a few MB to a few dozen MB. Before saving many on a phone, check free space and connect to Wi-Fi.

Music in Reels and copyright

Reels often carry background music, and the audio is saved in the file with the picture. Music usually has its own copyright, though, and a creator using it on Instagram is within what the platform licenses, not a sign that you may repost a video containing it elsewhere or use it commercially. Personal collection and study are fine; read copyright and fair use before republishing.

Frequently asked questions

Why does a saved Reel have no sound?

The Reel may have no audio track, or the platform may have muted the audio over rights; the saved file matches the version the platform provides.

Can I save several Reels at once?

A single save takes one link at a time. To save all the new Reels of an account, add it under Following and new ones are saved automatically.

Is there a time limit on saved Reels?

Server retention follows the plan (Standard 7 days, Pro 90 days, Premium permanent). For long-term keeping download them or sync to Google Drive.
