How to Save Instagram Stories Before They Disappear

Updated: 2026-10-28 · 7 min read

Instagram Stories are gone after 24 hours, and there is no button to keep someone else's. If you want to save Stories from a public account, the practical way is to have them captured while they are live. This guide explains exactly how Meecut does that, and where the limits are.

Can you download Stories?

Yes, for public accounts, while the Story is still live (within 24 hours of posting). Stories from private accounts, Close Friends lists, or Stories that have already expired cannot be saved, and Meecut does not try to get around that.

Why you cannot paste a Story link

A Story does not have a permanent post link like a normal post or Reel. Single-link saving in Meecut accepts post (/p/) and Reel (/reel/) links only. Stories are handled by account tracking instead: you tell Meecut which public account to follow, and it looks for live Stories each time it checks.

How to capture Stories with Meecut

Step 1: sign up and add the account

Sign up (email or Google), open Following and enter the username of the public account. Press "Start following".

Step 2: let it check on schedule

Meecut checks the account every 6 hours by default, which is also the shortest interval on every plan. Each check looks at new posts and at any Story that is live at that moment.

Step 3: find them in your gallery

Captured Stories appear in the gallery with a Story tag, filed under the person you chose. Checking Stories does not use extra captures.

What can still slip through

Checks happen on a schedule, not as real-time push. A Story is saved if any check lands during its 24 hours. If the owner posts and deletes a Story quickly, in between two checks, it can be missed. Adding an account before it posts, rather than after, gives you the best chance of catching everything.

Tips

Copyright

Stories remain the creator's property. Save them for personal viewing and organizing, and do not repost or use them commercially without permission.

Frequently asked questions

Can an expired Story be saved afterwards?

No. A Story is shown for only 24 hours and cannot be fetched after that, so one of the checks has to catch it while it is live.

Can “Close Friends” Stories be saved?

No. Those are shown only to people the owner picked, and Meecut does not get around that.

Does checking Stories use extra captures?

No, checking Stories does not use additional capture credits.

Will the owner see that I looked at their Story?

Meecut does not use your Instagram account, so your account does not appear in the owner’s list of viewers.
